Lorde stood out at the Grammys with a poetic message
January 29, 2018
While many artists sported a white rose in support of the#TimesUp movement, singer Lorde added her own touch to the initiative. The musician stood up and stood out by stitching a part of a poem to the back of her red Valentino dress at the 2018 Grammy Awards. The poem is the work of feminist artist and writer, Jenny Holzer.
The excerpt reads:
“Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take courage, for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstances can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.”
Lorde did not perform at this year’s ceremony and allegedly turned down the offer to after being left out of a tribute performance to Tom Petty. According to a source, the tribute had signed up the all-male nominees of the best album category and Lorde was ignored and left out.
