10 Facts to know before “UAE Flag Day”

The UAE Flag day which is on the 3rd of November is a few days away, and what better way to celebrate it than learning 10 interesting facts about the flag of the country we love and live in.
1- The Flag was first introduced and used on the 2nd of December, 1971.
2- The Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan founder and father of the UAE was the first person to hoist the flag.
3- The UAE Flag day was founded and established 5 years ago by Vice President and Ruler of Dubai H.H, Shiekh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum back in 2013.
4- The UAE Flag day coincides with the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s first day as president of the Emirates.
5- Only The UAE president is allowed to raise the flag with the falcon emblem on it, which is known as “The UAE Presidential Flag”.
6- The flag itself was designed through a competition sponsored by Al Diwan Al Amiri, also known as “Diwan Al Re’asa” in Abudhabi, which lead to the creation of the current flag.
7- The winner of that competition was Abdullah Mohammed Al Ma’enah which later on became the State Minister for the UAE Foreign Ministry.
8- The inspiration of the design itself came from verses from a poem written by Safi-u-ddin Al Hali.
9- If the flag is positioned vertically, the red part should be on top, and the black part should be on the left.
10- Each color of the flag represents a certain trait and aspect of the country.
Its a day to remember and celebrate the achivements of the founding fathers and how they affected and transformed the Emirates shaping it to what it is now.
