Florence + The Machine Make a Cameo in Game of Thrones with New Song

The Florence + The Machine Game of Thrones Song Might Have Spoilers!

April 22, 2019

Warning: spoilers ahead.

If you watched last night’s GOT episode, you might have caught on the eery vocals of Florence from Florence + the Machine.

Missed it? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

The new “For the Throne” track made a debut  in the episode when Podrick Payne sang it in the Great Hall. And it was both haunting and beautiful, all at once.

Interestingly, the song which is called “Jenny’ Song” actually features in “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin, however never in a full stanza. According to Westerosi folklore, the song is about a prince who had to choose with true love and the Iron Throne. The result: bloodshed.  Jon Snow are you listening?

The lyrics:

High in the halls of the kings who are gone
Jenny would dance with her ghosts.
The ones she had lost and the ones she had found
And the ones who had loved her the most.

The ones who’d been gone for so very long
She couldn’t remember their names
They spun her around on the damp cold stone
Spun away all her sorrow and pain

And she never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave

But wait. How does Jenny relate to Jon Snow? Well, Jenny of Oldstones was the wife of Duncan Targaryen. And much like Jon Snow and Daenery’s love story, Jenny and Duncan’s story also featured the Iron Throne. To marry Jenny, Duncan had to give up his right to the throne.

The timing of this song is everything!!! It plays in the scene just before Dany learns that Jon Snow aka Aegon Targaryen is her nephew (eeks!) and the rightful heir to the Seven Kingdoms.

What unfolds next? Will love overcome greed? Well, we’ll just have to wait for episode 3.

Till then, keep listening to Heart FM for all the latest scoop!
