Yesterday, the UAE government announced its first multiple-entry five-year tourist visa during the Cabinet’s first meeting of 2020.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, revealed that tourists will be able to apply for the visa which would allow multiple entries over five years. Currently, tourists can visit the UAE with a multiple entry visa for up to 90 days.

Sheikh Mohammed posted a tweet, saying “Today we approved the change of the tourist visa system in the country… so that the duration of the tourist visa is five years, multi-use… for all nationalities… we receive more than 21 million tourists annually and our aim is to establish the country as a major global tourist destination.”

The new tourist visa is set to be implemented in the next four months and is aimed to provide a boost to the UAE’s tourism industry.

Sheikh Mohammed also added “We want 2020 to be a year of development, growth and competition with leading countries in economy, competitiveness and wellbeing.” adding “We do not want our achievements to be limited to one segment of society, we want them to be diversified to touch the lives of seniors, children and people of determination, both for UAE nationals and residents, students and employees, entrepreneurs and investors, alike.”

During the Cabinet meeting, the introduction of a visa waiver for Mexican citizens travelling to the UAE was also announced.
